All aspects of the life of plants are covers by Botany. It includes plant structure and development, physiology and biochemistry, genetics, as well as their relationship with other sciences and the environment.
The department was established in the year 1986 under The University of Burdwan as a Three year degree course and continued up to 2011 and after that Botany Honours three years degree course was started in 2011 with 13 seats and in course of time it increased up to 18 supporting with CBCS course and the department is well equipped with modern instruments.
The department tries to takes a conscious effort to expand its teaching program bringing together novel developments in the field with traditional areas of Botany through projects and field excursions. The department developed a medicinal plants garden and a vermicompost unit at the college campus.
The department provides a small Departmental library and a Herbarium Unit for the students.
